As the saying goes, “If you can read this, thank a teacher.” Clichés aside, in honor of these hardworking, dedicated mentors, May 4 – 10 will mark National Teacher Appreciation Week. The National Education Association and Parent Teacher Association are building the nation’s largest teacher thank-you card. To be part of this tribute, visit www.teacherthankyoucard.org and send your thanks to a memorable teacher. Meanwhile, we went to Dixie State College and asked a few students:

Which teacher made the biggest impact on your life and how?

“Norman Lister (at Pine View High School) was my choir teacher, and I’m a music major. I learned a lot from him about music.”
- Brandon Hanson St. George

“I had a couple of really good teachers. Mrs. Teresa Brown at Panorama Elementary. She was really good with math. She showed patterns in math and made it really understandable. My math professors here at Dixie (State College) have been good, too. We have a really good math department here.”
- Cristina Cardon St. George

“I think her name was Sally Paine or Susan Paine. She was my third-grade teacher at Santa Clara Elementary. She helped me learn to keep trying and not to give up too easily.”
- Spencer Deal St. George

“Mrs. (Rene) Hazen (Pine View High). She helped me understand English and made it fun.”
- Keean Janson St. George

“Christy Hall, at Tuacahn. I had her for math, mythology and Honors English. She made it possible for me to figure out how math works. I hated math before, but because of her, I love math. She would use examples from movies and “Star Wars.” She’s also the founder of the Star Wars and film clubs at Tuacahn. She’s an amazing woman in every fathomable way. She’s my role model.”
- Hillarie Gowers St. George

“Mrs. Sheehan at Dixie High School. She was my 11th-grade English teacher. She was a really fun teacher and taught me you could learn and have fun.”
- Jeff Crockett St. George
