Senior Health Addressed at Conference
By Southern Utah Focus
May is Older Americans Month, which promotes working together to create healthy and supportive communities. To honor this goal, the theme for the 6th Annual Southern Utah Seniors Conference is “Making Sense of Senior Health.” The event takes place Friday, May 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Festival Hall in Cedar City. Registration and a resource fair begin at 9 a.m.
This year’s keynote speaker, Dr. Chad Anderson, will talk about vision problems and eye care. Breakout sessions will focus on hearing loss, diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, and volunteering. The conference is open to seniors, caregivers, professionals, and others interested in aging issues. The entire event is free and includes refreshments and lunch.
The conference is sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association, Five County Area Agency on Aging, Health Insurance Information Program, Iron County Council on Aging, and Iron County Volunteer Center. Free respite is offered for those who want to attend but are caring for a family member who cannot be left home alone. Contact Carolyn Moss (673-3548) to inquire about respite care.
To register for the conference, call the Iron County Volunteer Center (867-8384) or the Alzheimer’s Association (628-8656). Seating cannot be guaranteed for those who do not register by Friday, May 2.
