The soft song of crickets on a warm summer evening, the smell of fresh-mown grass in a tree-shaded park, the welcome handshake of a longtime friend, the colorful blur of children on the neighborhood playground. People come to Washington City for hundreds of reasons. They come back for only one, “Washington City: Feels Like Home.”
It is a city of celebration, a place of parades, a year-round home for festivities, foot races and fireworks. And why not? Here, every season brings something new to celebrate. Our matchless climate, in this green oasis amid the stunning red rock, makes Washington City a home for all seasons, a home for life.
This year Washington City will be celebrating its 151st birthday. We invite everyone to enjoy the full schedule of events planned for the week of May 5 – 10 and meet this year’s Grand Marshal, Cheryl Rogers Barnett, daughter of the late Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, as she joins the celebration of her new hometown. Come and celebrate with us and experience for yourselves why Washington City: Feels Like Home.
Washington City is also excited to announce the grand opening of our 110,000 square foot community center located at 350 N. Community Center Drive.
The community center is home to three full-size gyms, cardio and weight room, indoor track, aerobic classes, rock climbing wall, reception/banquet center and Utah’s largest indoor aquatic complex. We will be offering a free two-day pass to the facility on May 20 and 21 from 5 to 9 p.m. and would like to invite the public to come tour the facility, enjoy open swim, the rock climbing wall, food and entertainment as we celebrate the opening of the Washington City Community Center.
The sun shines nearly every day of the year in Washington City, bringing a wealth of recreation opportunities to your doorstep. Whether it’s hiking and biking our dramatic red rock formations, playing baseball and soccer under clear blue skies, or spending a leisurely afternoon on lush emerald fairways and soft, gentle greens, you’re sure to have noticed that no matter the season, Washington City is everything outdoors; but beginning May 20, Washington City will also be the premier spot for indoor recreation.
We would like everyone to come to Washington City and experience the feeling we have in our community. We have diligently tried to continue to have that “sense of community” that has been part of Washington City since the first settlers arrived in 1857. Washington City truly is a place that “feels like home.”
