Double Granny Party
The Third Annual "Double Granny birthday party" was held on April 12 at the home of Tony and Judy Balen in Bloomington Hills. Judy's (front) mother-in-law, Leona Balen (left), and mother, Betty Chadwell (right), 92, were born six days apart in April 1916. Leona was born in Enterprise and still resides in the family home. Betty was born in Wisconsin, raised in California and now lives in Washington state except for a few months when she "snow birds" in St. George. Each birthday party brings together children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren from five Western states. Next year's party is already being planned.
