St. George Exchange Club recently named its students of the month for March. One student from each of the area’s high schools is selected for the honor.
Erin Gavin is the Dixie High School Student of the Month for March. She is the daughter of Paul and Knar Gavin. Erin has a 4.0 GPA and is active in her school's science Olympiad and FFA Parliamentary Procedures. She enjoys being involved in Big Sisters and being a volunteer basketball coach in the community. She plans to major in biology and become a pediatric oncologist. She isn't sure where she will attend college but would like to go to BYU, U of U, or Bryn Mawr College. Her greatest thrill so far is competing on the national stage in Indiana for FFA Parliamentary Procedures.
Maren Ettinger was named Dixie High School Student of the Month for February. Her parents are Locke and Carol Sue Ettinger. She has a 3.96 GPA and is active in violin, tennis and RASK Club. She was a judge at the science fairs and performed in the orchestra pit for school plays. Her favorite subjects are biology and biotechnology. She also is active church activities and in collecting food for the Care & Share. After graduating, she would like to enter a marine biology program at either BYU or University of Oregon. Her biggest adventure in life so far is rappelling down a waterfall in California.
Kelsie Laub is the Pine View High School Student of the Month for March. She is the daughter of Tom and Tracy Laub. She has a 3.6 GPA and is involved in her school's chess club. She was previously a Sterling Scholar runner-up. She enjoys being an intern at Sandstone Elementary School, as well as being involved in 4-H and Young Women's in the community. Once she graduates from Utah State University with a degree in elementary education, she plans to be married in the LDS Temple in Logan, Utah. Her greatest excitement is being the 4-H State Ambassador.
Jill Averett is the Student of the Month from Tuacahn High School for March. Her parents are James and Jeanelle Averett. She has a 3.69 GPA and is very active in dance. She enjoys her English class at school and participating in community food drives and clean-up activities. She would like to attend Dixie College, have a career and travel.
Kathleen Gracia is the A.C.E. Student of the Month for March from Millcreek High School and the daughter of Joanna Palz. She is very active in theater and art at her school and enjoys science and art classes. She has volunteered at the Corn Maze in Washington and hopes to attend college to learn to become a limnologist (a scientist studying the life of lakes and ponds). One of her biggest thrills was moving here from Chicago.
Kassidy Pendelton is the Snow Canyon High School Student of the Month for March. Her parents are Gus and Kristina Pendleton. She has a 3.9 GPA and is active on her school's exec. council, in madrigals, journalism and N.H.S. Her favorite subjects are English, journalism and history. She enjoys helping with can food drives in the community and doing the walk for M.S. She would like to attend Dixie State College and become an elementary school teacher. One of her especially memorable experiences was singing with the Madrigals to Gordon B. Hinckley; the other was walking across the Grand Canal Bridge in Venice, Italy.
Alexandrea Jensen was the Student of the Month for February from Snow Canyon High School. She is the daughter of Curtis and Danelle Jensen. She has a 3.99 GPA and enjoys playing in girls’ soccer and basketball, while being active in Youth Leadership, N.H.S. and the yearbook staff.
