Emma Bastian Dalton
Emma Bastian Dalton, passed away a few hours short of her 95th birthday Monday, March 31, 2008 at the Iron County Rest Home. She was born on April 1, 1913 in Panguitch to Hans Tygesen and Lula Elizabeth Bastian.
Mom was a life long resident of Paragonah, which she dearly loved.
She married the love of her life, John Lewis (Jack) Dalton Jr., May 31, 1935 in Paragonah. Their marriage was sealed for time and eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on Aug. 19, 1960.
They are the proud parents of three children—John C. and Erma Dalton, Annette and Bill Inglesby, and Helen Jean Stubbs.
Mom had a deep and abiding testimony of the Savior and served faithfully all of her life. She enjoyed many church callings and especially loved to teach the children in Primary. She served a mission in the California-Sacramento Mission.
Always thoughtful and caring, compassionate service was a large part of her life. She spent countless hours caring for the needs of others.
Mom loved gardening and was an expert at raising vegetables and flowers. She did beautiful handwork and made many quilts, afghans and crocheted handkerchiefs.
Mom graduated from Parowan High School, BAC and CSU in Cedar City. She taught elementary school for 29 years. She truly loved every child she taught and saw potential in each student.
She never stopped teaching. She received great joy in teaching and seeing her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren learn and grow.
Mom is survived by her children, 11 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack, son-in-law Alan Stubbs, great-granddaughter Jessica Emma Jeffries, her parents, brother Clair, and sister Metta Mortensen.
Services were Friday, April 4 in the Paragonah Ward Chapel. Friends and family called at the Ward Church Thursday evening April 3, and Friday, April 4. Internment was in the Paragonah Cemetery.
