Print Article Email Article
The Pine View Chess Team moved up to 4A competition this year. Competition was very tough but Pine View took second in the State High School Chess Tournament. The team was led this year by captain Tom Hutchins. Clutch performances were turned in by Junior Ryan Lewis who only lost one game the entire tournament and took second place in the 11th grade section. Also turning in strong performances were senior Tony Bonny, who received a trophy for second place in the 12th grade. All members of the team performed well.

The Snow Canyon Chess Team played in its first ever State High School Chess Tournament. Snow Canyon fielded a team made up completely of ninth graders as state rules allow. It was the youngest team to compete in state, and they were also the surprise of the tournament, taking third place. Jon Hesson took first, James Olmstead took second place, and Antonio Padron took third in the ninth grade section.
