The Heritage Choir will present its musical version of the Easter story on Easter Sunday, March 23, at 7:30 p.m. at the Cox Auditorium.
Director Keith Bradshaw and Associate Director Nancy Allred have selected familiar classics as well as some new compositions to celebrate Easter.
Along with Christians the world over, the Southern Utah Heritage Choir is particularly drawn to the hope and promise offered by Christ’s atonement, crucifixion, and resurrection on that first Easter, stated a representative in a press release from the choir.
The Heritage Choir will take you to the countryside and streets of Jerusalem as they sing, “I Walked Today Where Jesus Walked.” “Go to Dark Gethsemane” invites listeners to share the intense pain and suffering willingly borne for each of us. Then follow the Savior’s path to Calvary with the choir singing, “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross.” Join the choir in reflective meditation on the implications and magnitude of Christ’s ultimate sacrifice for mankind as they sing “O Divine Redeemer” and “I Know That My Redeemer Lives.”
Violinist Dr. Paul Abegg will accompany the choir on the violin as a guest soloist, along with Dr. Allred and Carol Larson on the piano. Dr. Abegg is an assistant professor of violin at Dixie State College and director of orchestras and head of string studies. He holds degrees from Michigan State and Brigham Young Universities and comes with a wealth of experience performing and teaching.
Ultimately the Heritage Choir hopes to offer solace and hope as the words of “Consider the Lilies of the Field.”
The Easter Concert is a gift to the community from the Southern Utah Heritage Choir. All are invited to share this free, uplifting and enriching evening of music.
