SGMT To Produce High School Musical

St. George Musical Theater is holding auditions for Disney's High School Musical.  The show will be directed by Ryan Norton. The play is the story of two high school students, brainy Gabriella Montez and basketball star Troy Bolton, who decide to break out of their normal cliques and audition for the high school play. They run into several obstacles when their efforts are sabotaged by Ryan and his sister Sharpay, who are considered the schools top theatrical talent. Together with their friends, Troy and Gabriella form a plan and begin the “start of something new.”
This is a large cast and the director is looking for teenagers and young adults to mid-20's that can sing in a pop style, act and dance. There are many characters needing to be filled including the jocks, the nerds, the thespians, the brainiacs, the skater dudes, the cheerleaders and other students who may act as fans at the basketball game and the science decathlon.
Open auditions will be Saturday, March 8, starting at 10 a.m. Those wanting to audition need to call the box office at 628-8755 to sign up for an audition time slot and prepare a song from the show or in the style of High School Musical. Participants may bring their own accompaniment tracks or an accompanist will be provided. Callbacks will be March 8 at 1 p.m.
Dance Auditions for everyone interested in auditioning for the musical will be Friday, March 7. Check the St. George Musical Theater Web site, www.sgmt.org, for time and place.
There are several adult roles including the karaoke MC who does a voice-over in the ski-lodge flashback, Ms. Darbus, the drama teacher, Coach Bolton, the basketball coach and Troy's dad, Ms. Tenny, the Chemistry teacher who does a voice-over and the moderator for the science decathlon, who is a voice-over as well.
Auditions for the adult roles is also March 8 starting at 10 a.m. Call the box office at 628-8755 for an audition time. Callbacks will be March 8 at 1 p.m. Those auditioning for the adult roles will also need to prepare a song from High School Musical or a song in the style of High School Musical.
The show will rehearse from mid-March through May and be performed on the Eccles main stage at Dixie State College June 5 through July 12. All evening shows are at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. There will be a matinée on the first Monday, June 9 at 2 p.m. and then every Saturday that follows, also at 2 p.m.
