“The Flyboys,” a locally made film in which many St. George and Hurricane residents participated, will be premiering in local theaters soon, according to an announcement in a press release.
“During production, a lot of local people really got behind the film and helped us because of its heartfelt story,” stated co-producer Dan Urness in a press release.
“We have a debt of gratitude to the residents, police department, fire department, mayor, media and local businesses … and we have always wanted to hold the official theatrical premiere in the movie’s ‘hometown’ as a way of saying thank you,” Urness stated.
“The Flyboys” is the story of two boys from a small town who find their courage tested when they accidentally stow away aboard an airplane owned by the mob.
“We are excited to announce that ‘The Flyboys’ will be coming to St. George theatres very soon,” stated writer/producer/ director Rocco DeVilliers. “We’ve decided to roll the film out in the place where it all began, St. George, Utah. The rest of the country will follow,”
After post production delays, the film has hit the 2008 film circuit, according to information in a press release. The film won Best Feature Film Jury Prize and Audience Choice Best Feature Film at the Omaha Film Festival. It also took Gold Medal for Audience Favorite and Gold Medal for Director’s Choice at the Park City Music Film Festival.
“Flyboys” had a showing at the Sedona Film Festival in Sedona, Ariz., and the Durango, Colo., Film Festival last weekend. Results have not yet been announced.
Many area residents have long anticipated the movie’s release since filming took place here several years ago. Updates on the film’s release will be posted on the movie’s Web site, www.theflyboysmovie.com.
