Every year since its inception more than 21 years ago, the Huntsman World Senior Games has seen an increase in the number of senior athletes participating in the games, with more than 9,500 athletes participating in the event last October.
Making it all possible was a corps of more than 2,000 volunteers willing to give their time and expertise to assist with the Games and help the thousands of visitors have a memorable experience.
Although it may seem a little early, the Huntsman World Senior Games is looking for people willing to help out with the annual event in October. While there will be many opportunities to get involved, the Games is currently looking for several key volunteers to assist with sports like badminton, track and field, swimming and to assist with administrative functions.
“There is no doubt in my mind that without the huge support of our Dixie volunteers, the Games would have failed years ago,” Kyle M. Case, chief executive officer for the Games, stated in a press release. “At every sporting venue or social event, you’ll find them creating friendships to last a lifetime, while ensuring the athletes have a world-class experience.”
Case stated that it’s this willingness to pitch in by local residents to help make the event run smoothly that keeps people coming back year after year.
The Games is looking for leaders with great organizational skills, the ability to delegate and follow up on assigned tasks, and flexibility in time commitments. Perhaps most importantly, according to information from the Games, volunteers should have a love for the area and a desire to share it with people from all over the world.
“The athletes enjoy the area, they appreciate the competition, but they fall in love with the Dixie Spirit and the hospitality of the people,” stated Jeff Harding, operations director for the Games, in a press release.
One of Harding’s many tasks will be to coordinate volunteers and try to match them with tasks appropriate to their skills, experience and interests.
