Guest performer Jordan Bluth will join the Heritage Choir for the group's annual spring choral concert, “Homeward Bound,” Feb. 29 and March 1, 7:30 p.m. in the Dixie State College Cox Performing Arts Auditorium.
“He is fabulous,” Bonnie Caldwell, publicity director for the Heritage Choir said. “He is a wonderful tenor soloist.
Bluth, a classically-trained tenor, earned a bachelor’s degree in vocal performance at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, according to information from a press release. He previously joined the Heritage Choir last year for a Christmas performance at the St. George Tabernacle.
During the performance at the Cox Auditorium, Bluth will perform such numbers as “Sanctus,” Verdi's “La Donna e Mobile” and the “Les Miserables” classic “Bring Him Home.” Bluth will also join the Heritage Choir in singing “Panis Angelicus” and selected numbers from the Broadway Musicals “West Side Story” and “Fiddler on the Roof.”
During the concert, some Heritage Choir favorites will also be performed to help usher in the spring season. The choir will sing such songs as the Marta Keen and Jay Althouse collaboration “Homeward Bound,” John Rutter's “For the Beauty of the Earth” and Jonathan Shippey's “Take Our Lives.”
Led by Director Keith Bradshaw and Associate Director Nancy Allred, the Heritage Choir is comprised of more than 175 community volunteers, according to the choir's official Web site.
“We're always improving. We have such wonderful directors – our directors are just top-notch,” Caldwell said.
Tickets for the Heritage Choir's spring choral concert are $10 each and can be purchased from members of the choir, at the Cox Performing Arts Center Box Office, 652-7800, or online at www.dixie.edu. All proceeds from concert ticket sales will benefit the Heritage Choir and be used for choir-related expenses such as purchasing music and renting performance spaces, according to the press release.
Community members are encouraged to join the choir, and auditions will take place March 6 and 13 at 6 p.m. in the St. George Tabernacle, 18 S. Main in St. George. Potential choir members will be asked to sing portions of familiar songs, Caldwell said, and they will also be required to demonstrate their music sight-reading abilities. A choir committee will approve new members.
Regular rehearsals are required of choir members, according to the Web site, as is some traveling, and there are also membership costs associated with choir dues and wardrobe expenses. Those interested in joining the choir need only show up at the audition; they do not need to call ahead.
