LaRue Veloy Sanderson
LaRue Veloy Sanderson, long-time resident of the Cedar City area, passed quietly on Feb. 4, 2008 in her home at the age of 80 years.
LaRue was born July 11, 1927, in Salt Lake City, the eldest daughter of John Ray Cunnington and Virginia Idella Ball-Cunnington.
She is survived by Lorin Worth Sanderson, her eternal companion of 63 years; and seven of their nine children, June Saxton of Longmont, Colo., Peggy Tryon of Enoch, Wendy Decker of Cedar City, Debbie Bruce of Pilot Point, Texas, Jennifer Sanderson-Bowles of Cedar City, Lorin Wes Sanderson of Salt Lake City, and Kenneth Sanderson of Henderson, Nev.
She was preceded in death by her sons Philip and Jeffrey. She is also survived by her sister, Billie Thomson, of Salt Lake City, and 42 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren.
LaRue was raised in Salt Lake City and graduated from South High School. Shortly thereafter on March 1, 1945, she married her high school sweetheart, Lorin Worth Sanderson, and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple.
They began building their family, while Lorin's work took them to the San Fernando Valley, Calif. in 1956; back to Salt Lake City in 1970; and finally to Cedar City in 1973. LaRue lived in the Cedar City 5th Ward area from 1973 until 2004, when she and Lorin moved to their home in the Enoch 4th Ward.
She worked many years for Deseret Industries as their Doll Lady and was active in the local TOPS group.
LaRue left her family a legacy of quiet faith and service, and a love of reading. She was forever a loving and supportive wife, mother and grandmother, and a faithful Saint.
Services were Saturday, Feb. 9 at the Enoch 4th Ward Building. A viewing was before the services. Interment followed in the Enoch City Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary.
