Free income tax help will be available Feb. 1 until April 15 through Tax-Aide, a volunteer income tax assistance program sponsored by the IRS and AARP/TCE.
Tax-Aide is the nation’s largest free tax-assistance and preparation service. The volunteer group is offering preparation of income tax returns in St. George to individuals, middle and low-income earners, with special attention to elderly taxpayers who file federal and state tax forms.
Tax return preparation will take place at the St. George Senior Center, 245 N. 200 W., Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Please note that children are not permitted in the Senior Center.
Taxpayers wishing to take advantage of this service should bring wage and earning statements (Form W-2) from all employers; SSA-1099 showing Social Security benefits; and all types of 1099 forms. Taxpayers with 1099-B forms should bring supporting documentation showing original purchase prices of assets sold, a copy of their 2007 tax return, and any other relevant information about income, deductions and expenses. You may need to show your Social Security Card to start a return.
Volunteer tax preparers will alert taxpayers to special credits and deductions for which they may be eligible. Tax-Aide will also provide free electronic filing, E-file, from computer-prepared returns.
All Tax-Aide volunteers have completed IRS and AARP/TCE training programs for basic income tax preparation.
For more information, contact the St. George Senior Center, 634-5743, or Charles Wilson, 674-0630.
