Ronald Ray Williams passed away Dec. 20 at his home in Kanarra Valley. He was born on May 27, 1931 to Ray and Sylvia Davies Williams.
The family spent much of the time in a cabin on Kolob Reservoir where his dad owned a ranch. After his father contracted multiple sclerosis the ranch was lost. Ronald helped support the family.
He later eloped with his lifelong sweetheart to Pioche, Nev. and married Joan Norman on Sept. 18, 1952. The two had one child, Brad. They moved around with the sheep creating a simple, but fun-filled life on the range.
Ronald had an opportunity to herd sheep for the CSU (SUU) Farm and spent 27 years with the college ending up with a lot of life-long friends and knowledge which he passed along to people in the livestock industry. He was able to breach the gap between the college and the practical ranchers.
Ron, as he was known to friends, was highly respected for his common sense. Ron then retired and pursued his love for the mountain and valley ranch which he protected fiercely and turned a dilapidated outfit into a productive piece of heaven which earned him the award of Rancher of the Year.
Ron was loved and respected for his accomplishments and his dedication to the land, livestock industry, and his own animals. I know he would want to say thanks to his many close friends, but he's busy spending Christmas with his sweetheart.
Ronald Ray Williams is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Brad and Darla Williams of Kanarraville and a grandson, Dolan Williams.
A graveside service was Dec. 22 at the Kanarraville City Cemetery. Online condolences can be sent to www.southernutahmortuary.com.
