“Bud” Miner
A. E. Miner, better known as Bud, passed away in Cedar City, Sept. 20, 2007, at the age of 94.
He was born in Salt Lake City Aug. 3, 1913, the second of seven children of Lawrence A. and Loretta E. Miner. After graduation from LDS High School in Salt Lake, Bud served an honorable mission for the LDS Church in Hawaii, then went on to earn a B.S. degree at the University of Utah and a law degree from George Washington University.
Immediately thereafter, he entered the service and was in the 8th Air Force in England during World War II, 1942-45. On Nov. 25, 1947, Bud married Beulah Kleinman in the Salt Lake Temple, and that union produced two sons, Steven Lawrence Miner and Verne Forrest Miner.
Following the war, Bud continued his government service for a total of 30 years, working for a short time with the Secret Service, and then 22 years in personnel and security for the Atomic Energy Commission in Los Alamos, N.M. Upon retirement in 1972, he returned to his native Utah and worked for Salt Lake County as a bailiff for Judges Gordon Hall and David Dee until his second retirement in 1984.
Throughout his life, Bud was a devoted and conscientious member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He would have a joke or funny story for just about any occasion, enjoyed humor for its own sake, and loved adding a little sunshine to the lives of others. The sunshine in his own life in later years stemmed mainly from his three grandchildren. Bud not only loved his own family but also enjoyed associating with extended family, his and his wife’s siblings, cousins, in-laws, and many nieces and nephews.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, two brothers, his wife, and son Verne. He is survived by his son Steven Lawrence (Julia) Miner, grandson Logan E. (Jenny) Miner and great-grandson Jaren N. Miner, all of Cedar City, and granddaughters Alison Miner and Maddie Miner, of Provo.
Services took place Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Heideman Mortuary Chapel in Washington, Utah. Interment followed in the Toquerville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donating to the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Missionary Fund or Perpetual Education Fund.
Special thanks to the Cedar City 10th Ward, Horizon Home Health, Beehive House, Kolob Regional Care & Rehab, and Bud’s wonderful Washington County relatives.
