Joan Pace
Woolsey DeWitt
Joan Pace Woolsey DeWitt passed away peacefully on Sept. 27, 2007 at the home of her daughter in Paragonah. She was born in Cedar City, Utah on April 4, 1942 with her twin sister, Jean, to Anthon H. Pace and Sylvia Blake Pace of New Harmony, Utah.
She has two sisters, Kay Daun Edwards of New Harmony, and Jean (Allen) Carter of Minersville.
Joan met Brent Ross Woolsey when she was 14 and he was 15. They were married 3 years later on April 10, 1958 in New Harmony, and it was later solemnized in the St. George Temple on their anniversary in 1971.
They have 4 children, Scott (Betsy) Woolsey, of St. George, Utah; Sandy (Mark) Barton, of Paragonah, Utah; Steven (Kristi) Woolsey, of Cedar City, Utah; and Sherise (Joel) Shively, of Kingsley, Mich. They lived in Cedar City, Utah and Indian Springs, Nev., then later moved back to Cedar. Joan was currently residing in St. George, where she was enjoying her retirement in her new home and in the warm weather.
She grew up in Southern Utah. She loved New Harmony and returned there as often as she could.  She loved to fish and take care of her flower garden.  She loved the holidays and loved to decorate for them and also spend time with her family.
She just loved life! She always thought of others and made it a point to do nice things for people. She loved learning and got to attend college later in life and enjoyed every minute of it. Her greatest joys in life were her children and her grandchildren, and she was so proud of their accomplishments.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life. She served as a Relief Society President, Young Women President, ward pianist, visiting teacher, and a primary teacher (which was her favorite).
She was a hard worker and taught her children to do the same. She had several occupations through the years, but her favorite was being a waitress.
Joan is survived by her four children, 14 grandchildren, her twin sister Jean and sister Kay Daun. She was preceded in death by her brother, Brian Anthon and her parents.
Services were Monday, Oct. 1 at the New Harmony LDS Ward Chapel. Visitations were Sunday, Sept. 30 and Monday, Oct. 1. Interment was in the New Harmony Cemetery. Online condolences can be sent at www.southernutahmortuary.com.
