Laura Stewart Richtsteig
Laura Stewart Richtsteig, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sept. 15, 2007. She was born June 13, 1917 to Charles Morris Stewart and Mary Elizabeth Bartholomew, in Vineyard (Orem), Utah.
She was the third child and the oldest daughter. She attended Lincoln High and Brigham Young Academy (BYU). She married Max F. Richtsteig on Feb. 17, 1940 in Vineyard, Utah. They moved to Cedar City in 1946. For Max to work at the Columbia Iron Mines.
She worked as a seamstress at home while raising her family. She worked at JCPenny as a book keeper; in 1970 she went to work at Parkway Motors (then Thorley Ford) as a book keeper until 1982 when she retired.
She loved gardening, walking and hiking in the foothills of Cedar City with her grandkids. She is survived by daughter, Karen (Bill) Dawson and son, Mark (Melanie) both of Cedar City; sisters, Edith Thacker of Idaho and Lois Maggio of Fairfax, Calif.; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her son, David Richtsteig and infant daughter, Diane Richtsteig, also by her five brothers, Mitchell, Morris, Alma, Lester and John.
Services were Friday, Sept. 21. Interment was in the Cedar City Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Swindlehurst Funeral Home. Online condolences can be sent at www.swindlehurstfuneralhome.com.
