Geraldine Fakler Leigh
Geraldine Fakler Leigh passed away Sept. 21, 2007 in Cedar City. She was born in Cedar City, Utah on Oct. 20, 1932 and was the first daughter of Joseph Louis and Lucille Biederman Fakler. She had one sister, Martha Fakler Hefner.
She spent most of her childhood in Cedar City with the exception of a few years when, as a small child, she lived in both Omaha, Nebraska and California.
Geraldine and Pete courted during her senior year and enjoyed riding horses up on Green's Lake, which is now Cedar Highlands. She graduated from Cedar City High in June and just six short months later, on Nov. 22, 1950, she married the love of her life, Peter Kent Leigh, and, as they say, the rest is history.
Geraldine was a dedicated wife, mother and friend. She devoted her life to making her children's better. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She began her working career at Fakler Accounting, Cedar Drug and First Security Bank. In 1973, she went to work as an assistant purchasing agent at Southern Utah University, which was Southern Utah State College at the time, and retired from there in 1994.
She was loved and respected by her co-workers and the students and received the Associated Students of Southern Utah State College President's Award in 1989. Just as she had been a hard worker and gave it her all, on retirement, she continued to lead an active life for as long as her health would allow and we'll all remember special times with her.
Geraldine is survived by her loving husband, Peter Kent Leigh of Cedar City; her children Jimmie Louis Leigh (Diane) of Portland, Ore.; Susan Leigh Arnsperger of Seattle, Wash.; Lucinda Ann (Cindy) Leigh Lovell (Nathan) of Cedar City, Utah; along with eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Martha Fakler Hefner (Sheldon) of Moab, Utah.
Preceding her in death is her father, Joseph Louis Fakler, and mother, Lucille Biederman Fakler.
Services were Wednesday, Sept. 26 at Southern Utah Mortuary in Cedar City. Online condolences can be sent at www.southernutahmortuary.com.
