Grace LaRue Cobbley Goodwin
Our angel mother, Grace LaRue Cobbley Goodwin, 83, passed away July 20, 2007 in St. George, Utah. She was born Sept. 30, 1923 in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to George Thomas Cobbley and Berthenia Phipps Harper Cobbley. She married Edgar LaVell Goodwin April 2, 1942, in the Mesa Arizona LDS Temple.
Her greatest love in life was being a wife, mother and grandmother. She and her husband served as missionaries for the LDS Church three times during their lifetime together.
The first was 3 1/2 years in New Zealand, where they were in the presidency of the building mission there. This required them to move their large family to the other side of the world.
The second was in the Northwestern U.S., where her husband served as the head of the building program in that area for 5 1/2 years.
The third was a proselyting mission to British Columbia in Canada for 1 1/2 years. She served in many stake and ward callings including Relief Society President numerous times.
She is survived by her husband, LaVell Goodwin; seven children: Karen (J.R.) Hayes, Brent (Susie) Goodwin, Chris (Louise) Goodwin, Kay (Theron) Borrowman, Kent (Fern) Goodwin, Kathy (Kevin) Van Gilder, and TeRia (Ross) Glauser. She had 43 grandchildren, 94 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren at the time of her passing.
Funeral services were July 26, 2007, at Morningside LDS 6th Ward Chapel, in St. George. Interment was in the Tonaquint Cemetery under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary (435) 673-4221. Condolences may be sent to the family through the Metcalf Web site at www.metcalfmortuary.com.
Her life has been an incredible example of love, faith and devotion to her husband, family, friends and to the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. This is not the end of her life’s mission, only the beginning of the next phase.
