Julia "Veon" Young Burton
Julia Veon Young Burton returned home to our Heavenly Father on July 23, 2007, after a brief illness. She was born in Kanab, Utah, on July 1, 1938, to Clyde Riggs and Julia Heaton Young.
Veon married Monte Elloyd Burton on Oct. 5, 1956, in Kanab. They were sealed for time and all eternity in June 1958 in the St. George LDS Temple, and she was a faithful member of the LDS church all her life.
Veon was raised and educated in Kanab and moved to St. George after marrying her sweetheart where they raised their family and loved each other for the past 50 years. She loved her family above all else.
No matter what was going on with her or in the world around her, Veon could always make you feel like you were her favorite and the most important person in the world. She was a great listener and cherished any time she could spend talking and visiting with her loved ones. She had many close friends and cared for each of them so dearly. She loved her "club" girls and was part of that group for over 45 years.
Veon enjoyed summers in Pine Valley, especially when all the work was done and she could sit and enjoy the beauty around her.
Always full of class and elegance, Veon had an artistic touch and could make anything beautiful, whether it was her embroidery work, pottery, painting, quilting, photography, creating Ukrainian Easter eggs or decorating her home.
She loved to travel and recently celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary on a Caribbean cruise with her family.
Veon found her professional calling working as an orthodontic lab technician for Dr. Bob Prince and Dr. Mervyn Cox. She loved her job and all the people she worked with.
Veon was a beloved wife, mother, Nana, and friend. She will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by her husband Mont, daughters Becky (Kalvin) Bowler, Julie (Dave) Macfarlane, son Greg Burton (Bryan Hashimoto), eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, with two more on the way, and her precious Maltese, "Sugar."
Her surviving brothers and sisters are Clyde "Romel" Young, Venita (Ken) Boren, Charlotte (Lee) Greenhalgh, Carla (Mont) Griffiths, Nancy (Randy) Merrill, Jeri (Jason) Bundy, David (Sissy) Young, and sister-in-law Katie Young. She was welcomed home by her parents and brother, Brigham "Ponch" Young.
Services were Saturday, July 28, 2007, at the St. George LDS Stake Center, with interment following at Pine Valley Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family through Metcalf’s Web site at www.metcalfmortuary.com
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you thoughtfully donate to your favorite humanitarian effort.
