Washington County Fair Grows Through Rich History

The Washington County Fair, which has existed in some form or another for nearly 150 years, has undergone incredible changes and growth in order to become the festival it is today.
According to the Washington County Fair Web site, www.washcofair.net/2007, the first fair to take place within the county was in Washington in the summer of 1860.
This first fair, which took place at the mansion of Washington resident John D. Lee, drew people from across the neighboring areas – some so freshly settled they hadn't even crops to enter into the fair's competitions – in order to encourage socialization and friendly competition between the agricultural and handcrafted accomplishments of those living in the county.
