Washington County Fair Grows Through Rich History  The Washington County Fair, in one form or another, has been around for nearly 150 years. Today, the fair has its own grounds, and has grown and changed tremendously. But, just as it was 150 years ago, it is an event the people of Washington County eager   
According to the Washington County Fair Web site, www.washcofair.net/2007, the first fair to take place within the county was in Washington in the summer of 1860. This first fair, which took place at the mansion of Washington resident John D. Lee, drew people from across the neighboring areas – some so freshly settled they hadn't even crops to enter into the fair's competitions – in order to encourage socialization and friendly competition between the agricultural and handcrafted accomplishments of those living in the county.
