Dr. Lee Caldwell, president of Dixie State College of Utah, announced July 23 that Frank Lojko has been appointed as DSC's new interim vice president of student services. Lojko will be replacing Dr. Joe Peterson, who has gone on to assume the role of vice president of academics at Salt Lake Community College.
Lojko will assume his new duties Aug. 20 while continuing as Dixie State's director of institutional research and legislative relations, a role he has performed at the college since 2000.
Having become adept at multitasking during his years at Dixie State, Lojko has simultaneously performed his primary legislative relations and researching duties, presided over some geology courses as an instructor and served as director of DSC's Hurricane Education Center.
“When President Caldwell asked if I was willing to serve as the interim vice president of student services, I accepted,” Lojko said. “I felt comfortable and confident that I could take on the additional responsibilities and duties of this position because of my various past and present higher education experiences in research, teaching and student services.”
Lojko has both a bachelor's degree and a teaching certificate from Missouri State University. He has also earned two additional master's degrees, one in guidance and counseling from MSU and another in earth science from Northern Arizona University. Lojko additionally has done doctoral studies in curriculum and instruction at NAU.
“We are pleased that Frank has accepted this new assignment on top of his other duties,” Caldwell said. “It was important for the institution to have someone ready to step in and assume the role in student services with the start of our fall semester just around the corner.”
Caldwell added that DSC will immediately begin a national search to find a permanent replacement for the position.
