The Sons of Utah Pioneers, long known for their appreciation of and dedication to preserving Utah’s pioneer heritage, are sponsoring a Concert and Family Gala July 20 from 6 to 9:30 p.m. at the soccer field and pavilion behind Three Falls Elementary in Hurricane.
The SUP has, in the past, held a huge garage sale to raise funds for their many projects, but decided that this year it would be more meaningful to celebrate the contributions of the pioneers with a dinner and concert. As a result of all the fun had in the planning, they decided the SUP dinner and concert will become an annual event, celebrated as close to July 24 as possible.
The dinner fare will be pioneer style barbecue beef, baked potatoes, a variety of salads and all the trimmings. Later in the evening, snow cones and cotton candy will be available, along with pioneer games, door prizes, a candy drop and some surprise entertainment.
The Bar G Wranglers, a western singing group formed in 1998 by Russ Eacker, of Hurricane, will perform. Their music, comedy and rapport with the audience have made them long time favorites throughout Southern Utah.
Other local talent will perform as well. A salute to the Mormon Battalion, performed by descendants of the group, will celebrate through song and dance the 150th anniversary of the battalion’s formation.
The National Anthem will be sung by 6-year-old McKalee Henrie, from Panguitch. Wayne Wright, who portrays Brigham Young on the St. George Live Historical Tour, will also participate in the Gala.
Clark Fawcett, Hurricane city manager, will emcee the evening’s festivities and Keyne Thorne, national area vice president of the Sons of Utah Pioneers, will speak.

Advance tickets and reservations may be purchased at Stout Home Furnishings, Zion Drug or by calling 635-0636. Admission is $15 for adults, $13 for students, $50 for a family of up to seven, $12 for age 3-12, and $14 for seniors.
