John David Carlson, age 78, passed away Oct. 7, 2006, in Ivins, Utah. He was born Aug. 24, 1928, in Salt Lake City, to David Clarence and Janet (Jane) Jenkin Carlson. He married Beverly Sheldon on Aug. 25, 1949, later divorced.
He graduated from Utah State University in 1960 in Natural Resources Management. He worked for the U.S. Forest Service and The Bureau of Land Management, many of those years in Price, Utah.
He was an avid reader, an independent thinker and preferred a solitary but physically active lifestyle. He will be remembered for his love and respect of nature, hiking, exercise and the ability to strive for independent thought and study.
John is survived by daughters, Jacque (Richard) Guyman, of Sandy, Utah; Susan Carlson, of Yuma, Ariz.; and son, Steve (Diane) Carlson, of Price, Utah. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Private funeral services will be held at a later date in Ivins, Utah. Arrangements under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary.
