With a few games now under their belt, Pine View High School's Lady Panthers are ready for a fulfilling upcoming season.
"We just did a five-game setup at American Fork, and our team won two out of the three," said varsity coach Rick Hentosh. "It was a hard-driving two-hours-plus match, but our team played very well as a unit throughout the whole game. We're excited for the
upcoming season and to push each other to the very best."
The team had similar success at the Las Vegas Tournament, which featured other regional teams such as Dixie and Snow Canyon.
"There were 32 teams there, and about half of them were really solid," Hentosh said. "We scored a lot and competed hard in many areas, and three of the regional teams went to gold. It was fun to watch all the teams play so hard."
Middle blocker Josey Parker said the team is close off the court.
"We're like a family because it's been really easy for us to bond with one another, and it's nice that we're a small team because we really get to know each other better," she said. "With our unity we'll be able to rise to the challenges, no matter how hard it gets."
Outside hitter Kristine Sedgwick said the team unity translates into great performances during matches.
"Our unity and friendships make it easy for us to trust each other and flow well when we're out on the court," she said. "Of course, we also have a lot of fun too."
Hentosh said he has also had fun seeing his solid group of players work their power together on the court.
"It's been fun to coach the girls and watch their strengths improve, and it's been fun to watch them battle it out with respect for the other team as well for one another," he said. "Our offense and defense are both pretty strong, and it has been great to see how our team has worked hard on-season and off-season to get to where we are at this time."

Pine View's first region game will be against Dixie High on Sept. 12. For further information about the team's schedule, call Pine View High School at 628-5255.
