Friday night’s battle between Pine View and Snow Canyon ended in a 31-20 win for the Warriors.

Snow Canyon’s lead for most of the first three quarters helped fuel the Panthers into a scoring fury for one last chance near the end of the game.

First quarter play saw both teams spending equal time on both sides of the field, until Pine View’s Travis Tait scored the first touchdown of the game with 35 seconds left in the first quarter, followed by touchdown attempt from Snow Canyon that instead headed out of bounds with 19 seconds left. The first quarter ended with Pine View in the lead, 6-0.

As second quarter play began, Snow Canyon fought back, and with 10 minutes left in the half, the Warriors scored their first touchdown, with a field goal giving them the lead at 7-6. Snow Canyon’s Dalton Groskruetz made an amazing catch and scored another touchdown for the team, followed by a successful field goal.

Every time it looked like Pine View was about to grab a touchdown, Snow Canyon ferociously tackled and barricaded the Panthers from gaining the endzone. When Snow Canyon’s Groskruetz almost scored again with a little over two mintues left in the quarter, Pine View turned up the juice and started their own pummeling against Snow Canyon. In the last five minutes of the quarter, Snow Canyon held onto the ball to score a field goal in the last few minutes of the quarter. This brought the score at the end of the first half to 17-6, and it looked very much like this was going to be Snow Canyon’s game.

The third quarter started off with a bang when Snow Canyon’s Adam Timo brought the ball to the 40 yard line. Timo scored another touchdown with six minutes left, and Matt Condie delivered a finishing field goal, which gave the Warriors a 24-6 lead.

By the start of the fourth quarter, Timo had yet another unstoppable streak with a touchdown at a little under 12 minutes into the quarter. Less than two mintues later, he scored yet another touchdown, bringing the Warriors’ lead to 31-6.

Snow Canyons strong lead only seemed to make Pine View want to hit harder and play stonger for the last quarter of the game.

With just under seven minutes left in the game, Pine View’s Bo Heaton scored for the Panthers. Teammate Nick Marinko took the ball to the 44-yardline shortly after, and Kevin Clements took it to the 35, leading to another touchdown for Pine View, topped off with a two-point pass complete, bringing the score to 31-20.

The Panthers played like madmen during the last three minutes of the game. However, Snow Canyon’s excellent tackling and guarding strategy brought the game to an end with a 31-20 win.

The combination of Snow Canyon’s forceful drive and Pine View’s never-give-up mentality showed that the season for both teams will be something not to miss.
