Athletes of the Week

Matt Lundin
Dixie High School
Student: Matt Lundin
Sport: Baseball
Hailing as athlete of the week from Dixie High School is senior baseball player Matt Lundin. Matt has been involved with the Panthers baseball program since he was a freshman. He plays shortstop and is a team captain. He's an excellent student who maintains a 3.6 GPA. For his efforts in the classroom and on the baseball diamond, he is this week's outstanding student athlete.
According to Matt: “It's fun being around the other players at practice and at games. The competition in baseball is great, and there is always some way to get better and improve. The game is a lot of fun. I've enjoyed playing since I was about 10 years old.”
Matt's coach: “Matt's going to be one of our team captains and is a fourth-year returning starter for us. He's been included on all-state and all-region teams. He's a great player. His work ethic is relentless. He's the first one to practice and the last one to leave. He's very motivational for the younger kids on the team, and they all seem to look up to him.” - Jeff Messerly
Matt's mom: “Matt puts great effort into baseball. Ever since he began, he has really tried hard to practice and work to improve. He has been helpful to younger athletes by making them feel like a part of the team. He's a very humble person who doesn't like the fanfare or being in the spotlight. He does his job and he's done well. He's really a good kid.” - Laurie Lundin
Matt is a senior and will graduate this year. He enjoys P.E. classes because he gets to be active during school hours. He has appreciated high school and will always remember the sports he played and other school activities involving sports. He's looked up to his coaches and older players due to the hard work and dedication they've shown him. He always appreciates the support his parents give him. He plans to attend Dixie State College before serving an LDS mission. When he's not playing baseball or studying at school, he enjoys hanging out with friends and family, watching movies and playing flag football.
